SPORTS CU ski coach Rokos makes team feel like family By John Meyer The Denver Post CU ski coach Richard Rokos chats with Sara Hjertman before a run at a meet in Winter Park last Friday. (Andy Cross, The Denver Post) WINTER PARK — Before they raced, they paused to remember their teammate Spencer Nelson. They said a prayer, and Nelson's parents sprinkled some of his ashes near the slalom starting gate on the mountain where he learned to ski. It has been an emotional season for the University of Colorado ski team, enduring the loss of a spirited teammate who died on one of the Maroon Bells last summer. But throughout their painful journey, the Buffs have been comforted and strengthened by head coach Richard Rokos, a compassionate man known for his selflessness and sensitivity. "We're a pretty lucky team, because he really, truly cares about us so much," sophomore Erika Ghent said during Saturday's slalom hosted by the University of Den...

sunshine fever

It was 65 degrees in Breck today! So BEAUTIFUL! It's giving me a bit of summer fever, even though i know we still have some large snow storms ahead of us. I couldn't help but surf the net and get my fill of summer lovin! Spring break is coming up.....maybe a trip?!?! Ha! A girl can daydream right? Nothing better then a great little summer dress to make it all better!  A bit scary thinking about bikini season considering I am white as a ghost but i want this top.  L Space Fleur Du Jour Bella Twist Halter Bikini Top, YES PLEASE! Nothing compliments the sand and the ocean like a fruity drink in hand!   A little trip to Cozumel for a few days would hurt anyone right?!?!  :)  Sending out so much love and gratitude

wooo hooooooooo, what a day.....

So Stella had the day off of school today and it couldn't of been a more beautiful day for it. I got a TON of stuff done around the house this morning including what seemed like 20 loads of laundry. Whew! Stella and her buddies spent most of the morning at the Rec Center swimming, playing basketball and playing racquetball. This afternoon after we picked all the girls up we all headed into the heart of Breck (a whole 1/4 mile away) and spent the rest of the afternoon walking up and down main street soaking in the sights, the people and all the sunshine we could take.  I've had the red clogs for about 6 years and I wear them NON-stop. We stopped into the clog store to look at all the new shinny clogs..... My black clog that I've currently had for 8 years are hurting too.   New and shinny!!! Resisted the urge and held off. This purchase will have to wait for another day!   Love this guy!   Yup! That's my girl! She grabbed a p...

glenwood springs hot springs, YES please.....

This morning we set off on a little family adventure to Glenwood Springs about an hour and a half from Breck, west down I-70. Past Copper, past Vail, past Beaver Creek and through Glenwood Canyon...I love this drive! We got to our destination at about 11 ready to soak up some mineral hot springs!  We were hoping for a bright sunny day but unfortunately it was a bit overcast so the they had to shut down the slide. Stella and her buddy were a bit bummed but they made the best of it by jumping off the diving board a million and one times. :)   We didn't have the big camera but my iPhone did okay!   Love the tunnels in Glenwood Canyon.   Out of the canyon before you get into Eagle there are the most beautiful red clay mesas. Especially after a light rain they are bright and clean. Troy got this pic on the way home! We ran into some snow over Vail Pass but the crazy part of it was that it was 41 degrees?!?! Love Colorado!  As we move into a ne...

Mucha....

I was digging through a box yesterday and came across a very large calendar featuring Mucha that my mom had a friend bring over from Prague a few years ago. Mucha is one of my favorite artists not only because he is a fellow Czech but also because I am a HUGE fan of his romantic, artistic style.  My parents have a few of his numbered prints in their house, maybe it's time for one or two in our house!  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alphonse_Mucha Alphonse Maria Mucha was born in the town of  Ivančice ,  Moravia  (the present Czech Republic). Although his singing abilities allowed him to continue his education through high school in the Moravian capital of Brno, drawing had been his main hobby since childhood. He worked at decorative painting jobs in Moravia, mostly painting theatrical scenery. In 1879, he relocated to  Vienna  to work for a major Viennese theatrical design company, while informally augmenting his artistic education. When a fire de...

sunshine fuels my soul....

OMG! What a weekend! We just got home about two hours ago from one big'ol whirlwind. We got up early Saturday morning and head up to Eldo (as usual) so Stella could train and Troy and I could cruise the mountain! It was amazing, the weather was top notch, the snow was incredible and the company was the best! We spent the better part of the afternoon on the bar deck with my mama soaking in all the sunshine we could get (and boy, did we get some)!  Nope, not happy at all!  ;)  Stella, her coach Montana and all her team mates!   My husband RIPS!!! Wooooo!  My laptop took a nose dive a few weeks ago (it SUCKED) so guess what this lucky girl got this weekend! Yup, a new 13inch MacBook Pro. It is of course for work but this girl is having a little fun on it too! We've finally turned into an all Mac family. iPhones, iPads, and MacBooks for all! Woot!  Meet Sir Ota our new fishy! Ota is a Czech word for prosperity....
